In simpler times little red schoolhouses peppered the American landscape. They served as a hub for their communities. Often the first communal buildings erected in frontier towns, one-room schoolhouses not only held school, but social gatherings, town meetings, and even church services until meeting houses and churches were built.
Today the little red schoolhouse is a nostalgic symbol in American culture. It represents a back-to-basics approach to education; community and shared experience; and even simplicity and affordability.
These are the three cornerstones of our mission here at My Little Red Homeschool.
Once upon a time, when homeschooling was rare, homeschool resources were hard to come by. Like panning for gold, finding one would elicit “Eureka”! Today, with so many resources, ideas, podcasts, and opinions right at our fingertips the sheer amount of homeschooling material is overwhelming. We often feel buried under a heap of homeschooling “stuff”.
It is our mission to help clear away the clutter and bring your family back to basics. For us, that starts with putting God at the center of our homeschool. With that, all our materials are derived from a biblical worldview.
As former “traditional” teachers, and a combined 40+ years of teaching and homeschooling under our belts, we understand the need for an open-and-go format. Many of our resources are written with that need in mind, making getting back to basics simple and user friendly.
In addition, we feel that getting back to basics also means getting organized. You can find planners, nature journals, notebooks, and even sermon notebooks here as well.
It is our heart to make My Little Red Homeschool a place of community. As we get established, we will be sharing videos and resources across a variety of social media platforms… Facebook, Instagram, and TikTok.
The symbol of simplicity and affordability is another key to our mission. Did you know that schoolhouses were painted red because red paint (containing iron oxide) was the most durable and least expensive paint?
With this in mind, it is our desire to offer simple and affordable resources for your homeschool.
Come back soon, as we will be adding more resources as we go. And be sure to check us out on Facebook, Instagram, and TikTok.
